September 26, 2012 | By | Comments (1)

If you’re a fan of peanut butter and almond butter, make sure to check the label before digging in. Sunland, Inc., a major manufacturer of nut butters with products under a variety of name and store brands, has been linked to a number of Salmonella outbreaks between June 11, 2012 and September 2, 2012 on products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and September 24, 2012.

Currently, 30 people ranging in age from 1 year to 77 years have been sickened in 19 states, with the majority being children under 10.

Make sure to check the recall list to see if your peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or other products that have nuts and seeds from Sunland, Inc. need to be disposed. Recalled products are linked to these brands (but aren’t limited to):

  • Archer Farms
  • Earth Balance
  • fresh & easy
  • heinen’s
  • Joseph’s
  • Natural Value
  • Naturally More
  • Open Nature
  • Peanut Butter Power
  • Serious Food
  • Sprouts
  • Sunland

Based on the information currently available, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that you do not eat any of the recalled peanut butter products and dispose of any remaining products or return to the place of purchase. “It is important to check your shelves at home and make sure to get rid of any of the recalled peanut butter or other products,” said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck in a press release. “If you have eaten one of these products and are feeling ill, contact your doctor or local health care provider.”

If you wish to contact the company for more information about the recall, you can reach them at 1-866-837-1018.
