Sweet Success: Bake a Second Batch

December 12, 2013 | By | Comments (3)

In our December issue, we introduced what we hope will become a nationwide movement: Bake a Second Batch. We want to encourage readers and fans to make an extra batch of treats for friends, coworkers, charities, or just someone who could use a lift. It’s our way of paying it forward—sweetly.

To kick off this initiative, we launched our own Bake a Second Batch drives in Cooking Light‘s two home cities: Birmingham, Alabama and New York City. In New York, Time Inc. staffers baked over 100 batches of cookies to donate to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, an organization dedicated to raising funds for pediatric cancer research. The cookies were part of 27 bake sales across the country, and all proceeds benefit Cookies For Kids’ Cancer.

In Birmingham, Cooking Light staffers baked over 100 batches of cookies, bread, brownies, and bars and delivered them to Christ City Church, who hosted a holiday party for Woodward Estates Mobile Home Community in nearby Lipscomb. The children who attended the event took a batch home with them and snacked on a few treats while they were there. Ziploc brand donated 250 containers from their holiday collection for the effort in Birmingham.

We hope you will become a part of the Bake a Second Batch movement. After all, it’s pretty simple: When doing your holiday baking this year, bake a second batch to share.

We invite you to share your second-batch photos, too, for a chance to win $500! Submit your photos to our contest on Facebook here. Or simply post your pics on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #BakeASecondBatch. Learn more about how you can be a part and start your own Bake a Second Batch tradition.
