Five on Friday: 5 Unreal Paintings that Look Good Enough to Eat

March 21, 2014 | By | Comments (13)

Tjalf Sparnaay paints ordinary objects—a fried egg, a crushed coca cola can, a crumbled receipt. Except he uses such extreme detail in his oil paintings, that it brings these objects to life. Really, just look at some of the photos below of his food paintings and tell us they don’t make your mouth water and stomach rumble.

The Dutch artist’s style is called megarealism or hyperrealism, a painting style that resembles a high-resolution photograph. And his aim is to bring beauty to ordinary things in life, like food we eat every day.

Check out his unreal paintings and tell us which is your favorite.

Every one is amazingly beautiful. The salad in the glass bowl was my initial choice, then the cream puff became my number one. I have to say that as I look really closely, I love them all, but the egg. Too bad the egg has been burnt – flame too high on that pan, the rest of it not cooked.

If I got an egg like this it would end up in the garbage. Ugh!

The salad is my favorite because it juxtaposes the lush, organic quality of the food with the hard reflective quality of the bowl.
