Colette Rizik has always been a meal planner and very organized, owing in part to four children running around the house. But, once the kids grew up and moved on, Colette found herself with more time on her hands. After 20 years of staying at home raising her four children, Colette decided to return to work a little more than a year ago.
The 54-year-old accountant resides in Northville, Michigan with her husband and loves to cook, hoping to be a pastry chef in her next life. Growing tired of cooking the same old recipes, Colette didn’t just make a change in her professional life, she made one in the kitchen as well.
And that change came in the form of the Cooking Light Diet.
“Now that we’re empty-nesting and I’m not cooking for four children, I just wanted something that was going to be easy,” Colette said. “I get home at 5 p.m., and I don’t want to have to think about it or what I’m going to make. So, I look at my week and dinner is all set. I’ve got the ingredients in the house, and I can just come home and make it.”
The main reason Colette and her husband joined the Cooking Light Diet was to control the amount of daily calories they consumed. “We’re in our fifties now, and we just want to make sure we’re eating healthy,” she said. “I feel better about the choices I’m making when following [the Cooking Light Diet], because I know someone else has done all the work to make sure what I’m eating is healthy.”
While eating healthy was her primary goal, Colette has managed to add several Cooking Light Diet recipes to her “Cooking Bible”–a binder she’s kept for 30 years full of meaningful recipes that she absolutely loves.
“We haven’t had a bad meal,” Colette said. “I have gotten so many recipes that I’ve wanted to make again. I’m pleased with it.”
In addition to the healthy and delicious recipes she’s collected, Colette appreciates the Cooking Light Diet for helping her to control and plan things better. The result? Weight-loss without much effort.
“We weren’t using [the Diet] as much for weight loss as maybe other people were, but despite that, I’m probably down five pounds* from when I started,” Colette said. “I’m not really trying. Again, you come home and just grab things you can find, and it tends to not be the best thing. You’re just mulling your way through the pantry, and [the Diet] takes that away.”
We asked if she would recommend the Cooking Light Diet to others, and with a slight lilt in her voice, Colette answered, “Yes.”
“You’re likely to find something that look goods to you with all the choices you have,” Colette said. “It’s [the Diet] very reasonably-priced for the convenience of having everything done for you. This idea that you can repeat things allows you to build up a repertoire of meals that are healthy, quick, and taste good. What more can you ask for in meal preparation? That’s what we’re all looking for.”
