Chrissy Teigen is a social media superstar (find her on Instagram and Twitter at @chrissyteigen), the wife of singer John Legend, a TV host (she can currently be seen on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle as well as on the nationally-syndicated talk show, FABLife, as one of the cohosts), and an all-around fun person with whom you’d want to spend an afternoon in the kitchen.

It’s this laid-back vibe that helped evolve her blog (sodelushious.com) into a new cookbook out today, February 23rd, Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat. We talked to Teigen to find out her favorite ways to look her best, in and out of the kitchen. She also shared a lighter recipe for chicken lettuce wraps from her cookbook.

Do you have a favorite makeup bag?
I love the ANYA HINDMARCH Lotions and Potions patent leather-trimmed cosmetics case. I take it everywhere!

How has your beauty routine changed over the years?
As I age, I learn to appreciate the look of my natural skin instead of covering it in heavy makeup all the time.

What’s your favorite food-related ingredient or scent in beauty products?
I’m really into rose water now. I love to spray it on my face to hydrate. It’s in my favorite mocktail at Spago.  And I’ve recently discovered you can steam carrots with it.

Have you tried any homemade beauty products (hair mask, lip scrub, etc)?
We try a ton of homemade beauty products on my show FABLife.  So I’m always the one putting turmeric into face mask or avocado into my hair.

What’s your biggest beauty regret/mistake/blunder?
Overplucking my eyebrows. And dyeing my hair jet black for a one-day shoot in Mexico with a box color!

What’s one of the lighter dishes that you have cooked recently?
My zucchini lasagna. It’s so decadent and flavorful and cheesy, you wouldn’t know the actual lasagna was missing.

…but how about when it’s time to turn to something less virtuous. What sweet or snack do you crave?
Sour Watermelon candy from Papabubble! I’ve always loved watermelon sour punch straws and sour candy, then I discovered the perfect blend of both.

Chrissy Teigen’s recipe for Chicken Lettuce Wraps from her cookbook, Cravings

Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Serves 6
Prep time: 15 minutes
Total time: 30 minutes

3 tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons light soy sauce
2 tablespoons Sriracha
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 1/2 tablespoons unseasoned rice vinegar
2 tablespoons minced garlic (about 4 cloves)
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger

1 pound ground chicken
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
8 scallions, thinly sliced, whites and greens kept separate
1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 2 cloves)
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1/2 pound white mushrooms, trimmed, cleaned, and finely chopped
1/2 cup finely diced canned water chestnuts
1 small red bell pepper, finely chopped

2 heads butter lettuce, leaves separated

MAKE THE SAUCE: In a bowl, combine the chili sauce, hoisin, soy sauce, Sriracha, vegetable oil, sesame oil, vinegar, garlic, and ginger.

MAKE THE FILLING: In a bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of the sauce into the ground chicken.

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. When shimmering-hot, add the chicken and cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until browned, 5 to 6 minutes. Transfer the meat to a plate and set aside.

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil to the skillet, then add the scallion whites, garlic, and ginger and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.

Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring, until they release their liquid, 3 to 4 minutes. Return the chicken to the pan, then add the water chestnuts, bell pepper, and the rest of the sauce and cook, stirring, until cooked through and the liquid has reduced and thickened slightly, 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in the scallion greens.

Transfer the mixture to a bowl and set out with the lettuce leaves.
