According to a new study from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, though, you don’t have to drop all the weight you want right away to see a healthier impact on your overall health.
Dr. Samuel Klein, a professor of medicine and nutritional science at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and senior author of the study, says that even minor weight-loss has “important health benefits for multiple organ systems.” In fact, losing just 5 percent of your body fat can have profoundly positive effects on your health, like lower levels of the fat linked to heart disease, decreased numbers of systolic blood pressure, and improved insulin sensitivity. The more weight lost after that 5 percent body fat, the better.
So you don’t have to see big, fast results to know you’re making great progress and doing your body favors.
