“I’m just so thrilled you decided to do a public service like this because, in my mind, there was a hole. We had the weight-loss people, but there was nobody to help keep it off. And you filled that hole for so many people. Thank God. Because I was really getting baffled as to how not to be on a diet for the rest of my life and feel like I was normal, but not gain weight either.”
Teresa Taylor of Lexington, VA, has been an athlete her whole life. The massage therapist was always active and eager to get outside and find adventure. But when she turned 40, her metabolism hit a wall and made it difficult to spark the drive she’d always had.
“I just started gaining weight,” Teresa said. “It just seemed like I was yo-yoing up and down. I would diet and lose weight. I tried every diet out there, and I never maintained it.”
Now 57, Teresa says she finally had a moment of clarity when thinking about an upcoming family celebration.
“My son is getting married in May, and I got so excited about the wedding,” Teresa said. “I took a good look at myself. …And it was a wakeup call for me. And I thought, ‘Oh my God, I cannot be at that wedding being the heavy mother.’ So I decided finally to do something once and for all about my weight.”
That revelation led her to a weight-loss doctor in Chesapeake, VA, where she was put on a strict calorie regimen. Sixteen weeks later she’d lost the 50 pounds she set out to lose. While that may’ve seemed like the hard part, the toughest task was figuring out how to maintain that weight loss. And that’s where the Cooking Light Diet came in. A fortuitous glance at a Cooking Light magazine in Lowe’s introduced Teresa to the CLDiet, and the rest has been history.
“I started following the Diet,” Teresa said. “As soon as I started doing that, I stayed at my weight, and I’m still at my happy weight. I’m still where I want to be. I have not gained or lost anymore. I’m maintaining. And I’m following your recipes every week.”
Following and loving the recipes, at that. As someone who loves to cook, Teresa says she’s having fun with all the new flavors and ideas the CLDiet has introduced into her kitchen.
“It’s made me eat things I wouldn’t normally eat, like a fig smoothie,” Teresa said. “I was like, ‘Really? A fig smoothie?’ But I love it! And I would’ve never thought of that.”
And now that the Cooking Light Diet is helping maintain her current weight, Teresa has been able to reignite her passion for being active.
“My athletic nature has returned,” Teresa said. “I am going to hike the John Muir Trail this summer out in California, which is 232 miles. I’m kayaking, I’m dancing, I’m running—I haven’t run in years—and I’m just able to do so much more. I feel like I got my life back.”
Glad we could help with that, Teresa. Congrats on all your success!
